Pregnancy and Postpartum : 2 Ps
Pilates’4 Ps: Practice, Patience, Perseverance, and Passion
As I recently graduated as a Second Generation Pilates Teacher (i.e Joseph Pilates’ grand-teacher or Grand-disciple), and a Pilates Master with Ms. Lolita San Miguel, trained and certified by Joseph Pilates, I am so excited to share that I could demonstrate that Pilates is the best form of exercise during and after pregnancy.
From ACOG’s guidelines to body changes during and after pregnancy, Pilates is the best fit and responds to the expectant body’s needs and challenges. Learn Pilates in Coconut Grove in the only studio with second generation Pilates teachers who have learned the Method at the closest source.
As pregnancy is a time of changes, a time to let go of bad or unhealthy habits, a time to embrace new habits and take care of yourself and your baby, Pilates – a mind-body-spirit – form of exercise is by far the most appropriate one for the mom-to-be.
From hormonal changes to postural changes, from poor quality of sleep or stress, back pain to edema, Pilates has a response for many of the body needs and discomforts.
Postpartum comes with its own joys and challenges too. Here again, Pilates helps to take control of your body. The mind controls the body. Pilates plays an important role in lifting your spirit up, making you happy, empowered, in control of your body and mind. This is so important for new moms.
I can not encourage you more to learn Pilates before, during, and after pregnancy. Yet, learn the real Method…it is not about music, it is not about fusion, or other kind of creation. Pilates is a Method and nothing needs to be re-invented. Learn about the Method with the teachers who are second generation teachers so that you can learn the best possible way. Before you are pregnant to be at your best. During pregnancy for you and your baby to be at your best. After pregnancy with baby, to go back to your healthy pre-pregnancy weight, to feel good, to escape from mommy duties or to enjoy a mommy-and-baby Pilates class.
