Kegel & Pelvic Floor Exercises in Every Class

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles to be toned, strengthened and relaxed.

Kegel and Pelvic Floor Health

More than 47% of women between the age of 22 and 49 – years old experience some urinary incontinence.

Named after Dr. Kegel, Kegel exercises are designed to tone, stretch, strengthen all of the muscles between our pubic bone, tail bone and our sitz bones.

This is why we include pelvic floor toning exercises in every class to educate women and create awareness of the pelvic floor.

Role of the Pelvic Floor

  • The pelvic floor plays a critical role in supporting our organs, in urinating/ bowel movement functions and sexual health.
  • Altogether It is a must to do Kegel exercises and be aware to contract these hammock – shape like muscles. Yet it is not easy and it is important to learn how to recruit the right muscles to do Kegel well.
  • Hence it is critical for every woman to maintain a healthy pelvic floor to be at their best before, during, and after pregnancy.

During the different stages of life, women go through many changes – pregnancies, postpartum, weight changes, hormonal changes, and menopause – Consequently, they can impact the pelvic floor’s tone and supporting abilities. The pelvic floor is impaired.

As a result, women are likely to experience incontinence – stress incontinence or urge continence.

At Body Belly Baby we teach Kegel to every pregnant woman or new mom in every class.

Who is Kegel for?

  • Pregnant women. Understandably, the pregnancy can be strenuous on the pelvic floor muscles due to weight gain, relaxin and gravity.
  • Postpartum women. Pregnancy together with labor can affect the pelvic floor’s strength independently from the type of birth – a natural birth or a c-section –
  • Women who suffer from urinary incontinence or stress incontinence.
  • Women who have some leakage when sneezing, coughing, laughing, jogging… They should start including pelvic floor exercises into their fitness regimen.

How to do Kegel Exercises correctly?

In our classes for pregnant women and postpartum moms, we teach Kegel exercises. Understandably, this technique is the ultimate mind-body exercise as you cannot see any muscle moving.

Accordingly it is critical to practice daily and include them in the fitness routine as well.
